Copy editor shares her experiences
Ms Barnes was one of the first members of Writers 2000.

The copy editor of the New Age newspaper, Ms Judy Barnes, hosted a workshop at the Writers 2000 meeting on April 30.
Ms Barnes is not only an editor, she has also written several books, her latest being ‘Deep Talk’.
She said the book is based upon her own spiritual experiences.
She said she saw herself as a spiritual being and not a religious person.
At the meeting, Ms Barnes shared many of her own life experiences and that there are many possible facets to the profession of writing.
She reminded the audience that as recently as the 1950s and 60s, it was indeed a strongly male-dominated world in which women realistically faced the challenge of recognition by working the proverbial two and a half times as hard as men.
Ms Barnes was one of the first members of Writers 2000. She recalled how the small group of enthusiasts held their meetings in each other’s lounges in the early days.
She paid tribute to Writers 2000, which was a gold mine of knowledge for her.
Her creative career wanderings took her through a variety of environments and experiences, ranging from articles on female firefighters to radio, television, and movie scripts. Some highlights included cross-media writing for the first two South African editions of the Big Brother television programme.
She also overcame the challenge of cancer. She lifted herself up during a tough economic period by developing and marketing a writer’s training course.
Writers 2000 has a track record of entertaining and educational monthly presentations by quality speakers.
Next month’s meeting promises to be no exception when well-known writer, Ms Marion Sher, will talk on Prostitutes, Presidents, Politicians and other interviews.
