Building a new daycare centre

CLEVELAND - Jumpers informal settlement residents are building a second day care centre for their children

Community members at Jumpers Informal Settlement have decided to build another early learning daycare centre for the children of the settlement.

Cotlands currently has a container at the informal settlement but residents feel that the current one is too small for the children. “There is nothing wrong with the container that Cotlands provided. We are very grateful for that container and everything that Cotlands has given us. However, the children need space and the current container is not big enough,” said Jumpers Informal Settlement leader Nomphelo Zozo.

Resident Ntsieni Masithulela said even though he does not have any children he is giving back to his community by doing the little that he can do. “I am helping to build the daycare centre. I don’t want to see children running up and down the street. They must focus on education,” said Masithulela.

Richard Netsianda added, “I am currently unemployed. I don’t want to sit at home and do nothing. I am helping to build up the daycare centre,”

Zozo said they need to finish building the new centre before December as people start going away for the holidays. “We need to finish building before people close for the December holidays so that we know the exact number of children that we can expect at Cotlands next year,” she said.
