Denver fire victim relief

DENVER – Residents express their gratitude after they received goods.

Ward 118 councillor Neuren Pietersen would like to thank members of the community who donated clothes, blankets and shoes to the residents who were left with nothing after their homes were destroyed in a fire on 3 January at the Denver informal settlement which affected over 100 people affected.

“Disaster Management was integral in coordinating Social Services, Sassa and Home Affairs. Shoprite Checkers provided their mobile soup kitchen that augmented the soup provided by Social Services,” said Pietersen.

Members of the affected community were stoic, resourceful and proactive in putting their lives back together. “Special mention must go to all members of the community for assisting with collecting the names of the affected members of the community.”

Pietersen also sends his gratitude to the indunas who assisted Disaster Management where necessary in the distribution of the items.

“It has been brought to my attention that there is still a shortage of clothes for men. Donations of such items will be greatly appreciated,” concluded Pietersen.
