Local artist holds exhibition
"Art is very important for a community as it allows people to express themselves. Everyone can take something away from art when they look at it,"
Hannah Kempe, a local artist and fine arts student, recently held a fundraising exhibition.
The exhibition was held at the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Elma Park between May 19 and May 21.
A variety of art was on display and for sale at the exhibition.
Kempe said the art came from a variety of artists and not only herself.
The exhibition included drawings, oil paintings, watercolours, fine detailed lino cut works, embroideries, cross stitch, sculptures and many other works of art.
“The exhibition was held as a fundraiser for the church and to get the community more interested in art,” said Kempe.
Funds from the church went to the Social Concerns Committee.
She said the exhibition is not only a fundraiser but also a platform for up and coming artists to showcase their work.
During the exhibition’s open night on May 19, Kempe was happy to see youngsters interested in buying some artworks for their rooms.
“Art is important for a community as it allows people to express themselves. Everyone can take something away from art when they look at it,” said Kempe.
She hopes to have the art exhibition as an annual event.
