Meet Ntombifuthi Buthelezi
WARD 118 - “I report burst pipes and leakage to the ward councillor. I also discuss business plans with our councillor to help the people in our ward.”
Malvern resident and ward 118 committee member Ntombifuthi Buthelezi wants ward 118 to be clean and tidy.
Buthelezi is the committee member for economic development.
“I report burst pipes and leakage to the ward councillor. I also discuss business plans with our councillor to help the people in our ward,” she said.
Ward committee members were elected at the beginning of 2017, six months after the August 3 local government elections.
The purpose of ward committees is to encourage participation by the community.
The committee’s responsibility is to make the municipality aware of the needs and concerns of residents and to keep people informed about the activities of the municipality.
Buthelezi said she is currently working on getting hawker stalls for people who sell goods on the streets.
Buthelezi said Jules Street is too dirty and she hopes to tackle its business problems.
“We have a big problem in ward 118. With the high rate of unemployment in our ward, we would like to accommodate the hawkers. There are many youngsters who started their businesses, but they stand and sell everywhere due to lack of space. Jules Street is a mess and I will make sure that by the end of my term in the ward committee, ward 118 will be clean and in order,” she said. Contact Buthelezi on 073 220 4971.
The EXPRESS will introduce the various members of ward committees in weeks to come.
