“It was a fantastic achievement and a wonderful experience for the girls. They prepared for the event for months. There was a lot to see, listen to and experience,” said Carole Heming, public relations officer for Jeppe High School for Girls.

Their first performance was on July 5 at St Alban’s Cathedral and the choir sang in the open category of Sacred Music with Accompaniment.
Their next performance was on July 6 at ZK Matthews Great Hall at Unisa where they competed in Youth Choirs of Equal Voices.
The girls received a gold diploma level one in the open category Youth Choirs of Equal Voices and a silver diploma level six in the open category Sacred Music with Accompaniment.
“The girls and staff are extremely proud of the choir’s achievement. They could not have done it without the dedication and passion of their conductor, Johan Bester, and their accompanist, Elize Kruger, who heads up the school’s music department.
“What a wonderful experience for Jeppe Girls to be able to compete against the best choirs in the world,” said Heming.
The choir hopes to take part in the next choir games in 2020 in Flanders, Belgium.
