The Kensington and Bez Valley areas have been experiencing a number of crimes in the past few weeks and residents fear for their safety.
PR Clr Alison Roberts, who is a Kensington resident, said the community is living in fear.

“The number of cases that has been shared in the community WhatsApp groups is shocking. It seems like the police are not doing anything to curb crime in the area,” said Roberts.
Jeppe SAPS spokesperson Capt Richard Munyayi said the police are aware of the crime in the area.
“We are starting with our operations to increase visibility in the area and we also urge the community to report the crimes,” said Munyayi.
Jeppe SAPS station commander Brig Wiseman Mthembu said that police officers under his command will be out in full force conducting crime prevention operations as their primary function during the festive season.
“We will make sure that people living and working in and around our police precinct are safe,” said Mthembu.
Munyayi said all shopping centres in the area will be frequently visited by the police.
“They will be easy to identify as they will be in their full uniform, but we will have some officers wearing plain clothes doing observations,” said Munyayi.
He urged residents to help ensure their own safety.
“We advise people not to drink and drive or drink in public. Do not carry large amounts of cash with you,” said Munyayi.
He also urged residents who are planning to go away for the holidays to make the necessary arrangements to ensure the safety of their properties.
“Those who are going away for the holidays should make sure that they inform their neighbours or get someone to look after their houses to avoid house burglaries and theft,” said Munyayi.
He also warned those who will be sharing stokvel money to be careful.
“Stokvel members should not carry cash with them. Rather have the account numbers of the members and transfer the money into their accounts while inside the banks to avoid robberies,” said Munyayi.
