Ismail aims to unite in 2020

"I want to see children playing in the street without fear and the parents being united against crime."

Cleveland Community Police Forum (CCPF) chairperson Muhammed Ismail is ready to work after his election as chair in November last year.

“I was happy to be elected as a chairperson of the forum. I am also happy to have the right people to serve on the CPF committee.

“We are working on finding the right community volunteers to assist in indentifying what we need to improve on from last year,” he said.

Ismail told the EXPRESS that problems that came to his attention after being elected were mostly service delivery.

This year the CCPF aims to decrease the number of complaints and hope to return a sense of trust among community members.

“We have projects that are lined up this year for our community. We want the community to participate in identifying issues that need to be resolved, to ensure we all live in a stable area.”

He said this year they are in partnership with security companies that will be assisting the forum when it comes to patrols.

“As a forum, we are looking forward to facing new challenges and experiences in 2020.”

“One of the main projects we are looking at with the community is to have educational workshops that will help the community to understand and support by-law enforcement.

“We also want to educate the public about drug abuse, and find activities that will keep people away from bad influences and drugs.

“The workshops will be held to educate the community on what can or cannot be done,” he said.

His main aim as chairperson for 2020 is for community members to support and take part in activities to unite residents in the fight against crime.

“I want to see children playing in the streets without fear and the parents being united against crime. We want the community to know that help is available and there are people to talk to,” said Ismail.

CCPF meets on the first Monday of every month at 6.30pm.
