Suspect involved in fatal Kensington shooting arrested

A suspect was arrested hours after a targeted shooting occurred at the intersection of Smith Road and Langerman Drive, Kensington, Johannesburg, on January 8 at about 18:00.

According to the Bedfordview CPF, response units were mobilised immediately upon receipt of verified intelligence.

Responders confirmed a fatal shooting involving a stationary vehicle at a traffic signal.

The scene was rapidly secured and cordoned, emergency medical services were activated, and Cleveland SAPS and JMPD were notified and arrived.

Witnesses provided information at the scene, which was immediately correlated with available camera footage.

Suspect vehicle information was identified through the SaferCity Bedfordview CPF Camera Project, in collaboration with private security, which provides camera coverage across Bedfordview and Cleveland.

Eyewitness accounts were corroborated with camera intelligence, enabling positive identification of the suspect’s vehicle.

The Bedfordview CPF further reported that the suspect had fled the scene in a white vehicle matching witness descriptions. Four spent 9mm cartridges were recovered.

The passenger in the victim’s vehicle was not injured.

Using consolidated intelligence, members located the suspect vehicle within hours of the shooting.

The suspect matching the information was arrested, and a 9mm firearm was recovered. SAPS forensic and evidentiary processes remain ongoing.
