Nine arrested in Bedfordview EMPD operation
EMPD officers arrested nine suspects for speeding, immigration violations and interfering with law enforcement during operations in Bedfordview and Kempton Park.
The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) arrested nine suspects during law enforcement operations in Bedfordview and Kempton Park.
According to EMPD, officers from the High-Speed Unit conducted speed monitoring along Atlas Road in Kempton Park, where two motorists were arrested for exceeding the 80km/h speed limit.

The operation later moved to Bedfordview, where officers recorded a motorcyclist travelling at 89km/h in a 60km/h zone along North Reef Road. When instructed to stop, the rider allegedly failed to comply and sped off, prompting a pursuit.
The suspect later abandoned the motorcycle and fled on foot. While officers were impounding the vehicle, seven men approached the scene with the suspect.
Further investigation revealed that the seven individuals were in the country illegally. They were unable to provide identification when requested.

All nine suspects, aged between 24 and 41, were arrested on charges including speeding, contravention of the Immigration Act, failure to comply with lawful instructions and interfering with officers’ duties.
They were detained at their respective police stations and are expected to appear in court soon.
