Edenvale CBD uplift begins with fresh kerb and road line repainting
Better Edenvale has launched a new improvement project to repaint faded markings, boost safety and inspire community pride across the town’s busiest areas.
Faded, unmaintained road markings and kerbs are not just a safety risk, they also signal that a town is slipping into decline.
In an effort to uplift Edenvale and its CBD, Better Edenvale has launched its latest painting project.
Starting along Van Riebeeck Avenue, the team recently completed repainting kerbs and refreshing parking bay lines to make the street safer, more attractive, organised and welcoming for residents, visitors and businesses.

“A fresh coat of paint may seem small, but it transforms how people feel about their town,” said Better Edenvale volunteer director, Marc de Sousa.
His business, Build It Edenvale, is located in the heart of the CBD and he said he sees the difference daily.
“Clear parking lines make traffic flow smoother and defined kerbs improve safety for all road users, especially pedestrians.
A clean, neat, well-kept and functional town boosts business and creates community pride,” said de Sousa.

Residents have praised the project on social media:
“Thank you for making our town smarter,” said Sonja Leoncini.
“Thank you. This town is worth keeping up its standards,” wrote Monica Lailvaux.
“Love what you guys do,” added Lynne Janine Livingston.
Better Edenvale is calling on more local businesses to become community improvement partners by donating monthly to support its ongoing projects.
“Our work depends on regular funding from caring, community-minded businesses and residents,” De Sousa said.
Contributions directly fund employment for the cleanup team, made up of previously unemployed community members, as well as their work gear, equipment, paint and tools.
“For those who say they already pay rates and taxes and should not have to contribute further, we say that we cannot sit by while our town deteriorates to a point of no return,” said De Sousa.

“The municipality is falling short on basic service delivery, but Better Edenvale is here to fill some gaps, to hold the municipality accountable and to assist where we can.
“For those who live or run businesses here, protecting property values, keeping the area clean and safe, and ensuring businesses can survive and grow is vital.
If every local business contributed monthly, imagine the difference we could make.”
He thanked the businesses already supporting Better Edenvale for making these cleanups and improvements possible.
