Locals head to the top spot
In the men’s premier ‘A’ division the Edenvale team managed to maintain their place on top, in spite of narrowly losing to second-placed Delville Germiston.
February kicked off on a busy note for bowlers in the Ekurhuleni district.
The Edenvale ladies’ league ‘A’ side widened the gap between themselves and second-placed Benoni Country Club.
Their win against Reading at Avion Park saw the team’s lead stretch to a commanding 26 points in the premier ‘A’ division.
In the men’s premier ‘A’ division the Edenvale team managed to maintain their place on top, in spite of narrowly losing to second-placed Delville Germiston.
This division is poised for an exciting finish, with the three top teams, Edenvale, Delville Germiston and Brakpan Mines, all in contention.
The men’s third division team fared less well, but still have a very slender lead at the top of the table over second-placed Reading, who are a very close second, just one point behind.
On Sunday, February 5, the Ekurhuleni district singles championships continued from the previous week.
Edenvale hosted one of the ladies’ sections, and spectators were entertained by bowls of the highest quality.
Four players, namely Charmaine Gardiner, Michelle Varner, Anna Mazaka and Shimanda Nepgen, from this section advanced to the quarter finals to be played at Alberton.
Edenvale players who advanced to the quarter finals are: Craig Rimmington, Gerald May, Sheila Buncombe and June Gilman.
