New soccer coach confident in Edenvale youngsters

"What I enjoy most about soccer is the atmosphere and the vibe that is brought to the field and the sidelines. When I go to one of my team's matches, I get caught up in the atmosphere."

Luleko Dlamini, a local soccer coach, is someone who exudes confidence and a positive attitude.

The Edenvale Football Club’s u-8 coach is proud of his team and to be a member of EFC.

The 20-year-old sportsman said he joined the EFC family earlier this year after his family moved from Benoni to Edenvale.

He was an u-15 coach in Benoni.

“Last year I joined the Benoni team halfway through the season. Our season didn’t go too well. I think it was because the players and I never really knew each other,” said Dlamini.

Unlike last year, Dlamini and his Edenvale team are succeeding in the league.

The u-8 team was sitting in third position in the league when the NEWS spoke to Dlamini on September 6.

Dlamini said he was always drawn towards sports rather than academics during his school years.

He said he played soccer throughout his primary and high school years at school and club levels.

“I just enjoyed sports more than academics. All of my achievements in school were for sports,” said Dlamini.

Dlamini said he had always dreamed of becoming a big soccer player, but his mother wanted him to focus more on schoolwork.

“I had been accepted into the School of Excellence in Tembisa for my soccer, but my mom wanted me to get good academic marks,” said Dlamini.

Dlamini now studies sports management, football coaching and sports administration.

“What I enjoy most about soccer is the atmosphere and the vibe that is brought to the field and the sidelines. I get caught up in the atmosphere during team matches. I have been reprimanded by referees a few times. I apologise, but 10 minutes later I am back on the field cheering for my team,” said Dlamini.

He said EFC’s u-8 team is “outstanding” as they all stand together and help each other.

Dlamini believes EFC has the potential to grow “humongously”.

Looking to the future, Dlamini hopes the u-8s will win the league cup.

Although the team is third on the log, he believes the chances for the league cup are very slim as there only a few matches left in the season.
