Help Pather get to Sweden
JOBURG – Being selected to go and represent South Africa in Sweden is an opportunity of a lifetime.
Queens High School learner Dareshen Pather (15) has been selected for the KSI-SA NR National Karate Team that will represent SA at the 2018 KSI World Championships in Stockholm, Sweden in July.

Pather took part in the KSI Nationals where he came third in kata and second in kumite, which placed him for the KSI World Championship in Sweden.
Pather, who is in Grade Ten, started doing karate at a young age.
“I started doing karate at Kensington Ridge Primary School in 2008. As the oldest child, I had no one to fight for me at school. I used to be bullied at school. I started karate to be able to defend myself. Little did I know that I would end up where I am today. Karate also taught me discipline.
“Being selected to represent SA is an opportunity of a lifetime. I hope to make SA proud but in order to go I have to raise an estimated amount of R30 000 before May 25. I have already raised half of the money,” said Pather.
“My biggest highlights were winning the 2016 AFSK World Champion. I have also won numerous awards,” he said.
Pather looks up to Sensei Arturo and Sensei Giancarlo.
