JEFA represented in Mandela Cup

“The boys are representing JEFA in different regions and we are proud of them.”

Joburg East Football Association (JEFA) has been selected to represent the region at the Mandela Cup Tournament.

The tournament started in July as a way to celebrate 67 Minutes for Madiba.

“The Mandela Cup Tournament started in 2010 and it has become an annual event. The aim of the tournament is to promote soccer and encourage young soccer players to be competitive,” said Birmingham Football Club coach Masa Kamali.

The Inner City Joburg, Soweto and Ekurhuleni associations are also participating in the tournament.

“There are u-13, u-15 and u-17 teams taking part in the tournament, however, JEFA doesn’t have u-13, u-15 and u-17 teams. Instead, we sent our u-12, u-14 and u-16 teams to represent us,” he said.

Kamali said JEFA was approached by Inner City Sports Organisation ambassador captain John Maluleka to take part in the competition.

“We didn’t think twice about the opportunity. It’s a good opportunity for our boys to show their talents. The boys are representing JEFA in different regions and we are proud of them,” he said.

Amen Football Club coach Thabo Mapondo said most of the boys taking part in the competition are from his team.

“I am very proud to see my players representing us. It shows that we have been playing well,” he said.

The association that will win the tournament will get soccer kits, medals and the Mandela Cup.

The tournament is expected to come to an end at the end of this month.
