Sibikwa to host auditions for ‘Stories We Tell’ play

The auditions will be held on June 3 at the Sibikwa Arts Centre in Benoni. The dates for the project are from July 31 to August 13.

The Sibikwa Arts Centre is happy to announce a partnership between the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith [UK], and the National Youth Theatre of Kenya kindly supported by the British Council and the Daneford Trust.

Stories We Tell, a two-week drama cultural exchange residency, will bring together a collective of young queer performers from the UK, Kenya, and South Africa to create theatre exploring gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and nationality culminating in live performances to be held at the Sibikwa Arts Centre in Benoni.

Stories We Tell will bring together six participants from three countries across two continents who will unite to create a 45-minute live theatre performance that interrogates and celebrates an African and British queer experience.

The participants will work with professional artists including British – South African Director Ameera Conrad, South African dramaturg Tankiso Mamabolo, and Kenyan filmmaker Michelle Shingi.
