Dogs treated for acid burns

The manager of the SPCA said the man who poured acid on the dogs is believed to be mentally disturbed.

The Benoni SPCA has opened a case of animal cruelty against a Wattville man who poured acid on two dogs last month.

The dogs, Betty, a Border collie, and Maxime, a Ridgeback, underwent treatment for third-degree burns.

They have since recovered and are up for adoption.

According to the SPCA manager Jacques Cronje, their two inspectors were called to the area after the owners noticed the dog’s skin peeling off.

“On arrival, they found the dogs hiding underneath a vehicle and to their horror realised that someone had thrown acid on the dogs.

“The two poor souls were hiding out of pain and fear. They were rushed to our veterinarian and were treated for third-degree burns.”
Cronje said the suspect, who is in his 30’s, is believed to be mentally disturbed. Investigations continue.

“This heinous act makes us sick to our core and should not go unpunished. The owner of the dogs is heartbroken,” said Cronje.

Betty the Border collie is now up for adoption at Benoni SPCA.
Maxime the ridgeback is now up for adoption at Benoni SPCA.

To adopt them, contact the Benoni SPCA on 011 894 2814.
