Drunk man arrested for perjury

A Daveyton man, who forgot his car outside a shebeen after heavy drinking, was arrested for perjury.

Police spokesman Capt Alfred Nakana said the man went to the Daveyton police to report “a false hijacking” case.

He first told the police that he was parked outside a shebeen when three men armed with firearms ordered him out of the car, on the night of Sunday, July 20.

He then changed his story and said he was driving along the street when three men flagged him down and asked for a cigarette lighter.

He said they then strangled him, before throwing him out of the car.

Police investigations revealed that he forgot his car at a shebeen the previous night, following heavy drinking.

“It was only when he arrived home that he realised his car was missing and decided to report it stolen,” said Nakana.

Nakana said the police arrested the man for perjury and he is due to appear in the Benoni Magistrates Court soon.
