Supporting Asperger’s sufferers

The national education facilitator from Autism SA, Claire Allen, will speak at the second monthly Asperger’s East Rand Support Group meeting, on August 20.

The meeting will be held at Roxer Academy, 135 Reier Road, Atlasville, from 6.30pm.

Allen will discuss the impact of the new Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, and how that affects asperger’s syndrome.

The support group aims to bring together parents, children and adults suffering from asperger’s syndrome.

‘‘It will give members the opportunity to share experiences and advice and aims at helping people with asperger’s,’’ said the support group’s founder, Rian Pelati.

‘‘It will help relatives to cope better and feel less isolated as they make connections with others facing similar challenges.

‘‘The group will be lead by professional facilitators and group members.

‘‘I hope the group will enable people to find others with problems similar to theirs.

‘‘Members will share their personal experiences and offer one another emotional comfort and moral support.’’

For more information, contact Pelati on 072 334 5292 or email to rianpelati@aspergerscounsellorsa.com.
