Monkey captured
The hunt for the vervet monkey which was spotted in Farrarmere Gardens, on August 6, ended after it was captured in Lakefield, on Thursday afternoon.
The monkey was trapped by Born To Be Free animal rescue centre’s Antoinette Jurgens, who has been trying to capture the animal since it was reported to her in early August.
She said it was not easy to trap the elusive monkey on August 22.
She thanked people in Lakefield who assisted her in the animal’s capture and for not chasing and hurting him.
Jurgens said the monkey looked very hungry and mostly ate pods from the sweet thorn acacia tree in which it was seeking refuge.
The old adult male has a leg injury, which could have been caused by a being struck by a vehicle in the past.
He will now be X-rayed and Jurgens will determine whether he can be released into his natural environment, soon.
Anyone who would like a wild animal removed from their property can contact her on 083 453 9804.
