
A total of 26 people were arrested in Brakpan, while two were nabbed in Benoni.
The arrestees included a 40-year-old woman who was arrested for suspected drunken driving.
The operations were all conducted in the mornings between Tuesday, August 27, and Monday, September 2.
“A total of eight drivers ended behind bars when caught on R23/Kaapmuiden Road, which has a speed limit of 80km/h with the highest clocked at 132km/h.
“Twelve people got arrested on R554/Vincent van Gogh, a 70km/h zone, with the highest driver clocked doing 133km/h,” said EMPD spokesman Supt Wilfred Kgasago.
“On the R23, which is a 100km/h zone, six arrests were made, which included an inebriated female driver in a Volvo sedan, caught doing 149km/h and claiming she was rushing to help her son.”
In Benoni on Main Reef Road, which is a 70km/h zone, two drivers were arrested for doing 107km/h and 105km/h.
Kgasago said fines of between R400 and R1 000 were issued to 18 drivers.
All arrested drivers were able to raise bail of R1 000 each, and are expected to appear in court to face reckless and negligent driving charges.
