Pensioner called witch, then stabbed

A pensioner is recovering in hospital after being attacked and stabbed on the night of September 1.

The 81-year-old Wattville woman was alone in the house when the incident occurred.

“Her son told the police that his mother was sleeping when she saw someone entering the house through the window and called her a witch,” said police spokesman Capt Mack Mngomezulu.

The unknown suspect attacked and stabbed her with the sharp object for several times in the head and the body.

“The son, on his arrival, found the mother lying in a pool of blood on the floor,” said Mngomezulu.

He quickly called the ambulance and his mother was rushed to the hospital.

“We are appeal to the families and community members to take care of the elderly and always ensure that someone is staying with them,” said Mngomezulu.

The police are still searching for the suspect and any one with information can contact DCapt Helen Motshegoa on 0118452379 at Actonville SAPS or on 086 001 0111.
