Benoni’s own Ben Affleck
Rynfield resident Renier Weideman (27) is well on his way to becoming Benoni’s very own Ben Affleck.
Weideman wrote, produced and acted in Hartsbegeertes, an Afrikaans film that will be released in a number of Independent Cinemas during October.
Hartsbegeertes is about two men, one who is very successful and has a lot of money but can’t help his wife who has cancer, and a young financial advisor who is struggling financially and can’t help himself, but wants to help the world.
The two characters deal with a number of real life hardships and, in their darkest hour, they discover hope.
A number of famous TV personalities, like Jacques Gombault, Angelique Gerber and Liane Heyl, also feature in the movie.
A year was spent producing the film, which will be released in independent cinemas in October, and on DVD on November 29.
It took Weideman three years to write the script — he had initially written it in English and later translated it into Afrikaans.
It is the first movie he has ever produced and written, but he has appeared in various television shows on SABC and various other films.
“I live by the words passion equals success,” he said.
“I did not study producing or script writing, but because of my passion I achieved my dreams.”
Apart from the media world, Weideman is a life coach, helping people to identify their emotional blockages, so they can be successful.
He attended Hoërskool Brandwag until Grade 10, and then left to study in America.
“I am currently writing a script for another movie and we should start shooting the film next year, in February,” he said.
