Misuse of taxpayers’ money

Noreen Da Silva writes by email:

I travel by foot and taxi to Benoni and I see our dear council is again misusing the taxpayers’ money.

A month ago I was walking from the station down Russell Avenue, where teams of workers were diligently raking and sweeping all the fallen leaves, and I distinctly heard one of the women in the team ask the “supervisor”, leaning against the council vehicle, where the bags were for the leaves.

And his reply was: “There are none – but don’t worry – ‘someone’ will come organise the collection of the leaves”.

So I watched for the entire month, every day, as the neat piles slowly spread back all over the pavements.

Lo and behold this week – the exercise is being repeated!

Aren’t there any “takers” to offer their “tenders” to bag the leaves?
