The items were being transported by truck when the driver was hijacked at the Tugela Toll Plaza, on Thursday.
“Crystal Park SAPS received a call from a person who claimed that he had been hijacked and was then dropped off at the corner of Pretoria and Geldenhuis roads,” said Benoni SAPS cluster spokesperson Lieut Nomsa Sekele.
“The truck driver alleged that he was hijacked at the Tugela Toll Plaza and that the robbers drove around with him, offloading the load close by.”
The victim was left at the intersection with the empty truck.
Crystal Park SAPS and APB Security responded to the call and tried to locate the merchandise, with no luck.
APB Security received information on the stolen items this morning and alerted the authorities.
The security company, along with a private investigator, visited a self-storage facility on Springs Road, where they found three men loading boxes into a car.
Sekele said two of the suspects then fled the scene in a car that was later stopped by police.
The third suspect was arrested at the storage unit.
Three suspects, aged between 28 and 33, are being detained at the Crystal Park Police Station.
They are facing charges of hijacking and possession of suspected stolen goods and are expected to appear in court soon.
