The operations were conducted between Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, in problematic areas which included the corner of Heald and Mathewson streets, Hurutse Street, Barwa Street, Eisellen Street, Mocke Street and Turton Street.
Nine drivers were caught driving under the influence on Friday afternoon and nine others were arrested on Saturday.
“Citations totalling 134 were issued for various offences, including moving offences, as well as for defects on vehicle,” said Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson.
The purpose of the patrols was to curb the inconsiderate and dangerous driving that usually occurs at weekends.
“In addition, unlicensed taverns and those who drink and drive were the focus of Metro Police officers,” said Kgasago.
Such strategic patrols, which are aimed at problematic areas, will be conducted every weekend.
