EMM rejects claim

Zak writes by email:

In May 2014, I, too, hit a huge pothole in Ampthill Avenue, outside the Spar.

Council also rejected my claim.

Their excuse was also that they rely on the public and their staff to notify them.

My point was that the potholes (three of them) were on a busy main road at a busy intersection used daily by EMPD yet they “did not see” them.

A week after I reported the pothole and my claim, they repaired them and a year later, in 2015, rejected my claim.

I escalated it to Helen Naidoo, who was supposed to be some “action person”, and all she did was delegate it to subordinates who again rejected it.

Evidently, logic evades the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM).

I suffered a R26 000 loss due to shock failure on my Mercedes and damage to my mags and tyres.

Editor’s note: The EMM was approached for comment but had not replied at the time of going to press.
