Keep your cellphone out of sight

Children must not walk in public spaces while chatting on their phones, or listen to music through headphones.

The Benoni SAPS spokesperson, Lieut Nomsa Sekele, issued this warning after the Vulnerable Citizens Support Initiative (VCSI) posted a message on their Facebook page about a pupil who was robbed of a cellphone at the Benoni Northerns Swimming Pool parking area, on March 4.

The post said that the perpetrators are two males and a female, driving a white Uno around Benoni and Kempton Park.

The perpetrators allegedly ask to use a person’s phone, and once they have it, they speed off.

Sekele said there wasn’t any incident reported to the police.

“We ask the victim to come forward to open a case,” said Sekele.

Sekele urged community members to always report crime immediately, to enable police to render their services.
