Apex water leak is internal
After six months of constant complaints about the water leak in Apex, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) has pronounced it ''an internal problem''.
The EMM visited Toronto Street on Friday (February 26) and found the leak to be a problem belonging to a private company.
“It must be noted that the pipes which are leaking are internal,” said EMM spokesperson Themba Gadebe.
“Therefore, the responsible company was advised to urgently fix their internal pipes.”
However, Apex resident Christine Malan, who brought the problem to the attention of the City Times, said, on Monday: “Nothing has been done, the water is still running on the road.
“We are supposed to be saving, not wasting clean water.”
Malan noticed in September, last year, that private contractors were digging and hit a pipe, which resulted in clean water flowing onto Toronto Street.
She then visited the EMM and water department on the corner of Vlei and Pretoria roads multiple times, for assistance in stopping the water wastage.
The EMM was contacted for a response about who the responsible company is, but none had been received at the time of going to print.
