Three arrested after robbing an Uber driver

The Ekurhuleni Central Cluster Trio Task Team arrested three men after they allegedly robbed an Uber driver along Snake Road.

The three men, aged between 25 and 37, were arrested on March 1 at around 2.45pm.

Ekurhuleni Central Cluster spokesperson Const Zunickha Essakjee said the 32-year-old driver was transporting three males on Snake Road in January.

“Suddenly, one of them grabbed him while the other two searched him and took his cellphone, money and threw away his car keys,” said Essakjee.

Essakjee said that, a month later, the same suspects allegedly tried to rob another Uber driver.

It is alleged that the three men befriended the driver and exchanged numbers, after they met him in Randburg.

“The second driver received a call from the three men and they asked him to pick them up in Brakpan,” she said.

The suspects were immediately arrested and detained at the Benoni SAPS.

They will be appearing in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court today (March 3) on a charge of common robbery.
