EMPD Tracing Unit members find unlicensed firearms and ammo

All four men were arrested and detained at the Daveyton Police Station.

The EMPD Tracing Unit members arrested four men for being in possession of two unlicensed firearms and ammunition on August 23 in Daveyton.

One of the suspects, aged between 26 and 44, was arrested at the Daveyton Hostel and the other three at Khanyile Street.

EMPD Spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago said police received a tip-off from the community.

“Upon further investigation, police found a CZ 9mm pistol loaded with five live rounds of ammunition at the hostel,” said Kgasago.

“As police arrested the man, he led them to another man who he claimed also possesses an illegal firearm.”

Kgasago said when police arrived at the man’s house, he had allegedly given the firearm to a certain educator at Khanyile Street.

“A Glock 9mm pistol loaded with seven live rounds was found at the alleged educator’s house and he was arrested with two other men.”

Kgasago added that the recovered Glock pistol is suspected to belong to an EMPD officer who was robbed by four men at her house in Chief Albert Luthuli recently.

“In-depth investigations are underway to determine whether the Glock is indeed the one taken from the metro police officer,” said Kgasago.

All four men were arrested and detained at the Daveyton Police Station.
