Follow up: Edenvale 63 Round Table supports a good cause

The family has also received advice on care facilities to approach where Jamie could perhaps find a permanent home and receive the proper care he needs.

The Edenvale 63 Round Table also lent a hand of support recently to the Rynfield mom and son in need of the community’s help.

Chairman Gerhard Swart approached members after reading the story “Poverty-stricken mother wants better life for her paraplegic son” on page three of the City Times’ June 28 issue.

Gerhard and fellow tablers Mark Wright and Lyall Pearton recently visited Lynne Cooks and her son, Jamie, to hand over a donation of groceries and a gas stove and gas bottle.

Benoni residents have opened their hearts to the family too since the story was published about Lynne’s struggle to care for Jamie (32), who has Friedreich ataxia, a genetic condition that affects the nervous system and causes movement problems.

Apart from generous donations of bedding, clothing, groceries and even cutlery and crockery from the community, through the Benoni Lakes Lions Club, Northmead optometrist Eye C U has offered to sponsor an eye test for Jamie, and the Lions will then also cover the cost of the prescription and glasses through Operation Brightsight.
