Body found in sleeping bag in Actonville

Police are investigating the cause of death and an inquest docket has been opened at the Actonville Police Station.

The decomposed body of a man was found next to Heidelberg Road near the Emandleni informal settlement, Actonville, on January 29 at around 9.30am.

Acting Actonville SAPS spokesperson Sgt Godin Nyathi said the body was found in a sleeping bag and wrapped with five layers of black plastic bags that were tied with brown tape.

“When the layers of plastic were removed no visible signs of injuries were seen on the body,” said Nyathi.

“The man had injuries to his head, his hands were covered with sand and he was wearing a head torch, like those used for underground mining.”

Nyathi added a handmade stretcher, which may have been used to carry the body from another location, was found next to the body.

Police are investigating the cause of death and an inquest docket has been opened at the Actonville Police Station.
