Wear your soul on your feet for children with cancer

CHOC wants to take over the country on Flip-Flop Day – from boardrooms to classrooms and everywhere in between.

February 14 is not only to celebrate Valentine’s Day; it is also a day to wear flip-flops to show your support for children and teenagers fighting childhood cancer.

The Childhood Cancer Foundation SA (CHOC) is launching a brand-new initiative for 2020 called Flip-Flop Day.

The foundation is a registered and internationally recognised non-profit organisation (NPO) whose aim it is to provide life-changing and all-embracing support programmes to children and teenagers and their families, from the get-go, once a diagnosis of cancer has been made.

The public will get the chance to purchase their Flip-Flop Day sticker, flip on their flops and show some ‘sole’.

CHOC stated: “We are hoping that the country will pull together, pay their R10 and set their 10 toes free.

“Children and teenagers who are facing the war against cancer are the bravest of the brave. They are standing on the front lines, facing the scariest journey that they will ever have to face… But these young warriors do not stand alone, because they are loved.

“It’s devastating, overwhelming and terrifying for everyone involved. Luckily, those suffering do not need to stand alone, because a group of complete strangers with a passion for compassion has stepped in and are stepping up to walk alongside these young heroes, locking arms with their families and holding steadfast in the face of uncertainty, shouting for all to hear ‘No! We will not give up without a fight!’”

CHOC CEO Carl Queiros said, “Flip-flops are basically a South African wardrobe prerequisite. Everyone wears them and everyone loves them.

“The journey that children and teenagers with cancer face is in no way light-hearted, but creating an annual event like Flip- Flop Day that raises money towards childhood cancer awareness is definitely a time to be joyous and needs a fully loaded feel-good factor.”

The campaign will be supported by PNA Stationers.

The public will be able to pop into any PNA store when buying their back-to-school stationery, art supplies or books and grab their Flip-Flop Day sticker.

It has never been easier to make a difference. Stickers can also be purchased from your CHOC regional office.
