Library still closed for renovations

It is hoped that the facility will reopen at the end of July

The Benoni Library will remain closed for renovations despite initial forecasts indicating that it will be open at the beginning of July.

The facility closed its doors on May 11 to undergo an R3m revamp which would include upgrades to the toilets, roof as well as carpets to be in line with the Occupational Health and Safety regulations.

According to Zweli Dlamini, Ekurhuleni Metro spokesperson, on-site contractors were not able to meet the deadline, however, it is hoped that the facility will be open to the public at the end of July.

“Frequent users who have library books do not need to worry as return dates will be extended to make provision for the temporary closure of the facility,” said Dlamini.

“Patrons are welcome to use alternative libraries although drop-off and collect services will still be available.”
