Domestic workers get employment platform
The platform is free of charge and has no agency fee.
As part of their efforts to bring positive change to the lives of domestic workers, Tebogo Dolamo, in collaboration with the Benoni Central Methodist Church, has created a platform for domestic workers and caregivers to find employment.
This platform is free of charge and has no agency fee.
According to Cathy Chambers, the lead elder at the church, after receiving many enquiries from women seeking domestic employment, Dolamo decided to establish this initiative in July as part of her social outreach.
“Job seekers who are interested phone Dolamo or myself, and we then register them on a database. After vetting them, 10 women are invited to the church on Tuesdays from 09:00 to noon, where they bring their references and patiently wait for their prospective employer to recruit them.”

Chambers said employers can interview the ladies separately based on their preferences when they arrive at the church on Tuesdays.
“While the ladies wait for employers, they have tea and coffee. Dolamo then teaches them about saving tips or other related matters.
“This platform is a safe space for job seekers and employers. It encourages transparency and open communication between the two parties. We aim to provide a space where domestic workers can find employment while gaining skills,” said Chambers.
She added that they have started a WhatsApp group on which Dolama posts adverts for vacancies.
Prospective employers seeking experienced nannies or domestic workers are urged to call Dolamo or Cathy on 064 754 5381 or 083 384 5319.
