Race to CGA champs heats up at last league meeting
The provincial championships are on November 23 at Germiston Stadium.
The Benoni Northerns Athletic Club (BNAC) juniors delivered another masterclass on the track in the last CGA age-group track and field meeting at Germiston Stadium on November 9.
The youngsters put their feet on the pedal to show their readiness for the provincials on November 23, where they will compete for places in the team to represent CGA at the Athletics South Africa (ASA) interprovincial championships in Bloemfontein on December 7.
Girls
Sprinter Bontle Makgalemele was again in her element in the U7 60m and 80m dashes. She finished both races second in 09.79 and 12.86, a massive improvement from her 10.42 in the 60m and 13.26 in the 80m from league two.

Hurdler Mila Rossouw finished the U11 70m hurdles second in 12.26 while Isabel McLeod was third in the U13 200m hurdles in 30.91. Heike Duvenage was fourth in the U13 75m hurdles in 12.52.
The middle-distance runners were again dominant, with Chelsea van Dyk winning the U13 800m and 1 500m. She breasted the tape in 02:21.40 in the two-lap race and clocked 04:50.35 in 1 500m, chopping almost four seconds off her time from the previous meeting.
Tamica Lloyd placed fourth in the 800m in 02:30.40.

Alexia Visser won the U9 600m race in 01:58.61 while teammate Danè Rudolph came third in 02:05.12. Dominique Broughton clocked 02:08.14 for fifth in her first time, competing in the distance.

Kayla Botha finished second overall behind East Athletic Club’s Mahlatse Mamonyane in the U11 1 200m in 04:04.07, bettering her league two with 04:11.38. Mamonyane clocked a season’s best: 03:59.53.
Boys
Northerns’ junior sportsperson of the year Siyanda Madlabane returned to the track after missing the second event because of fatigue. He won the U13 boys’ 1 500m in a PB 04:26.49 with his teammate Samkelo Msibi falling outside the top three. He crossed the line in 04:44.65 for fourth place.

Aaron Ani was second and third in the U7 60m (09.61) and 80m (12.69) sprints, respectively. Teammate Oithekgile Tjege was fifth in both races in 09.36 in the 60m dash and 12.77 in the 80m.
Bokamoso Nonyane finished the U11 1 200m third in 03:59.45, which was slightly slower than his PB of 03:52.07 achieved in the last meeting.
Tyler Holzapfel clocked 11.99 for fourth place in the U13 boys’ 80m hurdles.
