The SAPS Police Emergency Services (PES) and Water Police and Diving Services (WPDS) operations, from July 3 to 12, led to the following successes.
Police Emergency Services (PES)
From July 3 to 9, the Police Emergency Services (PES), including the Flying Squad, K9 Units, and Highway Patrol, arrested 104 suspects across Gauteng.
Gauteng.
The operation resulted in:
• 20 arrests for serious crimes including assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen property, robbery, theft, reckless and negligent driving, armed robbery, kidnapping, rape and contravention of the immigration act.
• Recovery of 37 hijacked and stolen vehicles.
Six arrests were made on charges of being in possession of these vehicles.
• Nine suspects were arrested for being in possession of unlicensed firearms. Four weapons were seized
• 69 suspects were arrested for possession of drugs with the intent to sell.
Drugs recovered included heroin, dagga, meth, cocaine and Mandrax.
WPDS
Officers from the Ekurhuleni WPDS division were deployed to two separate incidents leading to the recovery of two bodies.
Ratanda
Shortly after 17:00, on July 8, officers were deployed to the Blesbok River where the body of an unknown man was found floating in the water.
Investigations into the matter are under investigation.
Norkem Park
• On the morning of July 9, WPDS officers were deployed to Norkem Park, where the body of a 32-year-old victim was found at a residential pool.
According to information, a social event was held at the premises the previous night.
• Officers were once again deployed to Norkem Park on July 10.
The body of an unknown man was recovered from a waterlogged underground room at the cremation wall of the Mooifontein cemetery.
Zonkisizwe
Officers responded to a scene at the Natalspruit River, on July 12, where the body of an unidentified man was found drifting in the shallow water.
Upon its recovery, officers found a pistol tucked in the victim’s pants.
It was later established that the weapon was a metallic toy gun.
