Linmed delivers five New Year’s babies

Families celebrate the arrival of their bundles of joy.

As the city counted down to the dawn of a new year, five couples ushered 2025 in by cradling their newborn babies.

Five healthy babies, three boys and two girls, were delivered on New Year’s Day at the Netcare Linmed Hospital.

Watching as her firstborn, Tristan Juan Rautenbach sleeps, Marilee van Zyl of Benoni says she is overcome with joy.

“The last two weeks leading up to his birth were stressful, thankfully Tristan was born without any complications weighing 3.205kg,” she said.

Juan Rautenbach’s broad smile is an indication of the new father’s jubilation.

“Marilee is the most beautiful mother; I can’t wait to have her and our son home,” he said, embracing his brood.

Leachville resident, Rebecca Sincwala said she is still processing the miracle of birth.

“I cannot believe my little Azande is here,” she said.

“He is perfect in every way. As a new mom, I am optimistic about the new year, seeing it started with the birth of my beautiful baby.”

Azande weighed 3.6kg at birth.
