Possession of a stolen vehicle
A 38-year-old man was arrested in Etwatwa on January 27 on charges of being in possession of a stolen Toyota Corolla.

EMPD Eastern Region Task Team officers received a tip-off about a man travelling in the car. They found the driver and vehicle on the R555 and investigations confirmed that the car was reported stolen in Mamelodi.

Sale of fraudulent CoE certificates
• EMPD Tsakane Precinct members arrested a 30-year-old man on fraud charges when he was found selling fraudulent Ekurhuleni certificates of acceptability.

EMPD officers and Ekurhuleni health inspectors raided an internet café on January 28, after the tip-off that these certificates are sold to shop owners for R2 500.

After finding the fraudulent document on the man’s computer, he admitted he had sold the certificates.

Officers seized all the equipment and detained the man at Tsakani the Police Station.

• A 23-year-old Somalian national was found with a fraudulent certificate of acceptability in Tsakane on January 29, so EMPD officers arrested him.

Drunk driving
EMPD Bronberg Precinct members arrested a 49-year-old man on January 28 after a head-on collision on the corner of Durandt and Geldenhuys roads, Putfontein.

Upon their arrival, the officers found four vehicles were involved in the accident, resulting in the occupants suffering minor injuries. One driver was driving under the influence of alcohol and a breathalyser confirmed he was well above the legal alcohol level.

Officers arrested him for driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless and negligent driving. He was taken to the nearest healthcare facility to collect blood samples.

Possession of drugs
Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) members brought three people to book on charges of being in possession of drugs with the intent to sell.

The men were arrested in Kaalfontein Ext 1 and on Kingsway Street, Brakpan.

Officers confiscated Mandrax and dagga.

Business break-in
A 47-year-old man was arrested at a manufacturing company in Olifantsfontein on February 2.
The BFS received a call that four men wearing police uniforms were seen on the property.

The BFS swiftly responded, arrested the man and found a Norinco pistol with the serial number filed off on him.

This unlicensed Norinco pistol was found on a 47-year-old during a business break-in in Olifantsfontein. The suspect allegedly wore a police uniform.

Rapid Response Services (RRS)
Some104 suspects were arrested across Gauteng, from January 24 to 30.

The RRS units including the BFS, K9 Units and Highway Patrol, did routine operations, which led to the arrest of 52 on charges of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen property, hijacking, contravention of a protection order, theft, domestic violence, fraud, driving under the influence of alcohol, business robbery, extortion, common robbery, possession of unlicensed ammunition, murder and armed robbery.

Further policing led to the recovery of 52 hijacked and stolen vehicles, accompanied by 12 arrests.

Eighteen unlicensed firearms were also recovered, with eight people arrested for possession.

Officers confiscated heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and meth and arrested 45 people for possession with the intent to sell.
