Qhubeka Athletic Club celebrated its third annual Human Rights Day Race on March 21 at the School of Achievement in Germiston.

The event, themed “Unity in Diversity,” brought together runners of all levels to honour human rights and community spirit.
Benzi Tenza, chairperson and coach, highlighted the success of this year’s race, which saw a 27% increase in participation compared to previous years, with entries selling out well before race day.

“Despite the high demand, many eager runners were unable to secure spots.

“I feel amazing about the response. Initially, I had some doubts, but seeing the overwhelming support has been incredible,” Tenza remarked.

The event featured three distances to suit various fitness levels – 21.1km half-marathon, 10km race and 5km fun run.

“Runners began their journey at dawn, with the 21.1km and 10km races starting at 06:00 and the 5km fun run commencing at 06:15. All finishers received medals, while the first 300 online entrants for the longer distances were awarded free event T-shirts.
