#EasterSportsFest: St Dunstan’s Easter Sports Festival day two preview

The day two programme starts at 08:00 and will continue throughout the day.

St George’s College and Helpmekaar Barbarians headline the day two programme of the St Dunstan’s College Easter Sports Festival with a bumper fixture in the early afternoon.

The fixture is sure to set the venue alive, especially with debutants Helpmekaar expected to bring the fight to the Zimbabwean schools that were dominant at last year’s festival.

The match kicks-off at 13:20 on the main field.

At the start of the programme at 08:00, CBC Boksburg and Beaulieu College face each other in the opening rugby match of the festival. Local lads Benoni High take on St Charles College at 14:40, in another fixture set to excite the locals.

Hosts, St Dunstan’s will close off the programme against Ashton International College Ballito at 16:00 on the main field, while Lomagundi, one of the standout teams last year, play Springs Boys High at the same on the B field.

Netball

A total of 13 schools will contest for the festival’s bragging rights in the absence of last year’s team of the tournament, Reddam Bedfordview.

Daveyton’s Unity Secondary School has the difficult task of setting the tone for this year’s tournament. They take on Thomas More at 08:00. Also at 08:00 are Norkem Park vs St Francis College and Benoni High firsts vs Benoni High seconds.

Hosts, St Dunstan’s open their account against St Peter’s College on court one. The centre pass is at 08:45.

The fixtures continue throughout the day with a bumper derby fixture between cross-suburb rivals St Dunstan’s and Benoni High firsts closing off the programme on court three at 16:15.

Hockey

After an exceptional opening day on the Astros, the hockey boys and girls are expected to carry on the momentum after setting the tone for the rest of the codes.

Benoni High captain Jason Russell is challenged by a St Dunstan’s player.

St Dunstan’s start the day with a tricky fixture against Hoerskool Goudveld at 08:00 at the St Dunstan’s College Astro, while cross-town rivals, Benoni High and Hoerskool Dr EG Jansen tackle each other at the same time at the Benoni High Astro.

The St Dunstan’s girls will look for redemption when they take on Wise Owl at 08:45 while St Dominic’s look to continue their good start against Lomagundi at 09:30.

The fixtures carry on throughout the day, with EG Jansen and St Dunstan’s College closing off day two at 19:00.
