Possession of drugs
• Two men were arrested on May 29 on charges of possession of drugs and bribery.
The occupants of a green Opel Corsa, aged 31 and 36, were nabbed on Lancaster Road, Benoni South, after it was found that they were transporting R15 000 worth of dagga. An additional charge of bribery was added when they offered officers from the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) R1 000 for their release.
• A 51-year-old man was arrested in Brakpan on charges of possession of drugs after seizing meth and Mandrax from his possession.
Impersonation
A 35-year-old was arrested in Brakpan on charges of wearing a belt issued by the Department of Correctional Services. This contravenes the Correctional Service Act because he is not currently employed by the department.
Rapid Response Services (RRS)
Units forming part of the SAPS’ Rapid Response Services, including the flying squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol, arrested 120 people across Gauteng from May 23 to 29.
Participating on concentrated operations, 76 arrests were made on charges of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen property, attempted murder, rape, kidnapping, malicious damage to property, theft of a motor vehicle, shoplifting, intimidation, impersonating a police officer, contravening the Immigration Act, murder, armed robbery, burglary, hijacking, sexual assault, defeating the ends of justice, business burglary, contravening a protection order and theft.
Officers recovered 39 hijacked and stolen vehicles, accompanied by eight arrests.
Seven people were arrested on charges of being in possession of unlicensed firearms. Four weapons were seized.
Further policing led to the arrest of 29 suspects for drug-related crimes. Heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and meth were confiscated.
