Possession of drugs
• Two people travelling in a white BMW were arrested on the R555, Etwatwa, on June 7, on charges of being in possession of drugs with the intent to sell.

During routine stop-and search-operations, members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) found them transporting three large bags of dagga with an estimated value of R50 000.

Upon their arrest, the duo offered officers R1 500 in exchange for their release, so an additional charge of bribery was added.

• A 37-year-old man was arrested in Brakpan on June 8 when found with heroin.

Rapid Response Services (RRS)
Units forming part of the SAPS Rapid Response Services (RRS), including the flying squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol, arrested 79 people across Gauteng from May 30 to June 5.

The concentrated operations yielded 35 arrests on charges of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen property, conspiracy to commit murder, unauthorised use of an official uniform, kidnapping, malicious damage to property, theft of a motor vehicle, shoplifting, contravening the immigration act, murder, armed robbery, housebreaking, hijacking, house robbery, contraveningf protection order and theft.

Members recovered 41 hijacked and stolen vehicles and arrested eight people on charges of possession.

Further policing led to the recovery of nine unlicensed firearms. Eleven suspects were arrested on charges of possession thereof.

Twenty-five suspects were arrested on charges of being in possession of drugs with the intent to sell. Heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and meth were seized.
