Daveyton community assaults man suspected of raping two girls

Putfontein SAPS acting station commander, Captain Ezekiel Mahlako, condemned the incident.

Two seven-year-old girls from the Zwakala informal settlement in Putfontein are in hospital after allegedly being raped by a 32-year-old man, on July 27.

The suspect is reportedly also in hospital after being assaulted by angry community members when he was pointed out.

According to Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Raider Ubisi, the parents said that on that day, at around 17:00, the young girls, who are friends, went out to play on the street.

It is alleged that an unknown man approached the children, offered to buy them sweets, and then lured them to his house in Daveyton where he raped and assaulted them before abandoning them in bushes in Daveyton the next day (July 28).

“The young girls were found by a member of the community who then took them to Daveyton SAPS.

“After a short interview by the police, the minors were taken to Putfontein SAPS and their parents were contacted.

A case of rape was opened at Putfontein SAPS and a case of kidnapping is being investigated by Daveyton SAPS.

Putfontein SAPS acting station commander Captain Ezekiel Mahlako condemned the incident and urged parents and guardians to take extra care of their children and not leave them unattended.
