#WOMENSMONTH: Bianca’s support keeps daughter Kiana going
"I love seeing my children doing what they love."
Bianca Pepler is more than just a proud mother to rising athletics star Kiana. She is the driving force behind the Benoni Harriers.
From handing out water and nutrition to offering encouragement, Pepler’s support extends to every athlete in the club, making her a vital part of the local running community.
“Through the years, being a trackside mom has taught me to trust the process, encourage consistently, and show up when it matters the most.
“Most importantly, support everyone. There are times when others don’t have the support they wish they could have.

“I will always be there to fill the gap where people need support and encouragement,” she said.
Bianca’s support reverberates throughout the club. She never misses a training session and is always trackside, encouraging the Harriers youngsters she refers to as her children.
Her wish is to be forever there for the athletes, so that when she’s no longer able to fulfill her trackside duties, they will still feel her presence in their hearts.
“My commitment is driven by the camaraderie between everyone involved at the club. I love seeing my children doing what they love. We have all become one big happy family in the group,” said Bianca.
Proud of the athlete Kiana has become, Bianca’s heart soars when watching her daughter inspire everyone around her.
“Kiana’s growth and determination have been her own doing. However, I would like to believe that I will always be present to share every moment of success and growth.
“When she looks up, she must know I’m here, and of course, when things go pear-shaped, I will always be there to help her through the disappointments and help her understand I’m forever proud of her. It’s not only about winning, but all the achievements and hurdles in between.”

Reflecting on the many special athletics moments she has shared with Kiana, Bianca says one that stands out is watching her daughter clock a top-four finish at last year’s South Africa Schools Athletics (SASA) cross-country championships in Kimberley.
“There have been many moments at her events, and as many moms would know, tears of pride and happiness flow all the time. The ones that stand out are the unexpected ones, like finishing in the top four at the schools’ cross-country championships and making the South African team.
“Every year, my pride keeps growing. I would like to see her remain the humble and amazing human being she is. This is what makes me the happiest when I look at my daughter and son.”
