Police nab suspects, seize over a ton of dagga
The suspects were detained at Crystal Park SAPS and have since appeared in court.
Crystal Park police recovered over a ton of dagga worth an estimated R3m.
Two men were arrested on charges of dealing in drugs following the discovery of 1 265kg of dagga at a storage facility in Pretoria Road on September 18.
Crystal Park SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Lerato Mopeli said police received a tip-off about suspicious activity at the premises.
“The complainant alleged that two men were seen loading large refuse bags into vehicles, and that different vehicles would arrive, load, and then leave,” Mopeli explained.
A response officer from a local security company quickly attended to the call. Upon arrival, they found a Toyota Corolla and three men at the premises.
“When the reaction officers confronted them, the suspects fled the scene. Two were arrested, while a third managed to escape,” Mopeli said.
During the search, five bales of dagga were discovered inside the vehicle, and more bales were recovered in the storerooms on the property.
The suspects were detained at Crystal Park SAPS and have since appeared in court.
