The Benoni Northerns Athletic Club (BNAC) invites runners, walkers and children of all fitness levels to the Benoni Northerns Night Race, sponsored by Jan L Jordaan Inc, on October 22.

This much-loved community event offers 5km and 10km routes through the streets of Benoni, with festive water stops and a great vibe along the way.

Acknowledging the growing popularity of the 5km distance among beginner runners and youth, the event will now offer electronic timing for that race.

With a passion for athletics evident and growing in Ekurhuleni, the BNAC calls on young runners to be part of this year’s night race.

“There are prizes for the school with the most online entries in the fun run and the school with the first 10 athletes finishing the 10km. Sponsor Jan L Jordaan encourages young athletes to wear their school kit for the race.

“Children must be 15 years old to do the 10km. There is no age restriction for the 5km. An adult must accompany children younger than 10,” said BNAC media liaison Kerry Webb.

“The BNAC night race is a proudly local event, with club members working together to make it happen, locals volunteering to host water stations and others showing their support. Jan L Jordaan Inc., Stockton Properties, RE/MAX Randgro and RE/MAX Dazzle will host the water tables. Kofi Benoni will also support the event, sponsoring prize money for the first three (male/female) in the 5km event.

“A big part of what makes the BNAC Night Race so special is the residents of Benoni who light up their driveways and stand outside to cheer on the runners. The BNAC hopes to see this Benoni spirit shine on race day.”

Manual entries are available at Kofi, 33 Fourteenth Avenue, Northmead, from 07:00 to 16:00 daily, and at the Benoni Northerns Sports Shop, 1 Brodigan Street, from 09:00 to 17:00 on weekdays until October 19.

Online entries are available until October 15 at www.bnac.co.za.

Late entries will be taken at these times and locations:

• Pre-race: October 20 and 21, from 09:00 to 16:00 at Jan L Jordaan Inc., 1 Forster Street, Rynfield;

• Race Day: October 22, from 09:00 at the Benoni Northerns Sports Grounds.
