EMPD operation lands farmer and workers behind bars
EMPD cracks the whip on criminals
A Benoni farmer and 19 of his employees were arrested on October 8 after the EMPD Bronberg Precinct and Home Affairs’ Immigration Department conducted a hotspot operation.
They followed up on information indicating that operations at the agricultural holding were suspicious.
The 19 employees were undocumented Malawian nationals.
The farmer was fined R12 000 and faces charges of employing undocumented foreign nationals. The 19 employees, facing charges of contravening the Immigration Act, were detained at the Benoni Police Station. They will soon appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court.
Other EMPD successes on the day included:
• A 38-year-old Daveyton woman was also arrested on charges of assault.
She allegedly verbally assaulted her grandmother before physically attacking both her and a cousin who tried to intervene.
Members of the EMPD Bronberg Precinct reported the case, and she was detained at the Daveyton Police Station.
The woman will soon appear in the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court.

• Two men were arrested on charges of pointing a firearm at someone, assault, and house robbery in Daveyton.
The two allegedly confronted the homeowner, claiming that a case had been opened against him and that he was to be arrested.
When the victim questioned the claim, one suspect drew a firearm and began assaulting him.
Out of desperation, the victim told his assailants that he had money hidden under his bed.
The suspects took the money and fled.
Following a tip-off about the suspects’ whereabouts, officers from the EMPD Bronberg Precinct arrested the men and handed them over to the Daveyton Police Station, where they were detained.
They appear soon in the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court.
