EMPD puts a cork on drunk drivers’ escapades

Operations such as these will be intensified in the build-up to the festive season.

Five motorists’ celebrations were cut short on September 28 when their reckless and negligent behaviour landed them in the Crystal Park Police Station’s holding cells.

According to EMPD spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, officers of the EMPD Bronberg Precinct conducted a concentrated operation in the Crystal Park area, focusing on those driving under the influence of alcohol and other intoxicating substances.

“Breathalyser tests indicated that the motorists were driving well over the legal limit,” he said.

“During their interactions with officers, it was noted that their speech was slurred. The individuals were transported to a local healthcare facility where blood samples were taken and they were detained at the police station.”

The suspects are facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and have appeared in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court.
